HAVE A SEAT

The commitments just continue to roll in from Iowa's successful recruiting event this weekend. Shortly after getting a verbal commitment from Florida defensive back Dane Belton (and just a day after getting a commitment from defensive end Jalen Hunt), Iowa also picked up a verbal commitment from Indianapolis offensive lineman Justin Britt.

Belton and Britt are the 12th and 13th commitments in Iowa's 2019 recruiting class; at this rate, this class may be just about done by the time the season rolls around in 69 days (nice).

Britt, a consensus 3* recruit, chose Iowa over almost a dozen other offers, including Michigan State, Louisville, Arizona, Cincinnati. Missouri, Purdue, Indiana, Vanderbilt, Washington State, and Minnesota, as well as everyone's favorite ambiguous concept of "interest" from Ohio State. Buckeye interest or not, though, that's a very solid offer sheet that Britt has racked up; this certainly wasn't a case of Iowa swooping in as the biggest offer on the table by far.

Britt is definitely a big boy -- our newest large adult son checks in at roughly 6'4", 282 lbs as a high school junior, so he certainly shouldn't be a case of a kid coming to Iowa and needing to spend extended time with Chris Doyle before seeing the field. in fact, if you want to see 11 minutes of Britt mashing dudes -- good news! His highlights are just that:

In high school Britt has mainly played tackle, but Iowa is reportedly looking at him as an offensive guard. (I haven't seen any specific measurements, but just eyeballing it, Britt's arms look like they're probably too long and not sufficiently T-Rex-like to be a prototypical Iowa tackle.) In the highlights, Britt shows an explosive first step and his footwork looks pretty good. He's definitely comfortable finishing a block -- there's more than a few plays in there where he maintains a block for several yards across the field -- but he also shows the ability to get to the next level at times and look for another hapless defender to smash, too.

Welcome to Iowa, Mr. Britt.
