Typically you don't pick up a recruit following another heartbreaking football loss to Wisconsin, but that's what Iowa did when Josiah Miamen committed back in September. What's more, Miamen was apparently torn between Wisconsin and Iowa and despite the Hawkeyes losing, he was impressed how they utilized their tight ends. With that, he made the call. Check the signing day highlights:
At 6'4", 225 pounds, it's fair to say that Miamen is more of a "receiving" tight end. That's why in a number of those highlights, he's lined up at wide receiver. He appears to have great hands, excellent leaping ability, and uses his size effectively on smaller defensive backs. Unfortunately, we know that Kirk Ferentz expects a lot more out of his tight ends and if he's to stay in that position, he's going to need to put on weight and develop his blocking skills. It might not be soon, but we'll see Miamen catching plenty of touchdowns at some point in his Iowa career.
Welcome aboard, Josiah.
