There was a time where a recruit out of Wisconsin was unusual. It wasn't a unicorn or the abominable snowman or anything, but Iowa certainly wasn't getting a player a year from under the nose of the Badgers. Seth Wallace began opening Wisconsin to Iowa half a decade ago, and Tim Polasek has now busted the doors down. Karchinski is the twelfth Wisconsin high schooler in the last four years to sign with the Hawkeyes.
Karchinski has the size that Iowa wants on the defensive line. What he doesn't have are the offers that would convey a true seal of approval from the greater football community. That doesn't much matter to Iowa in most circumstances, especially when it involves a projected lineman. Anthony Nelson's best offer was Iowa State, and look at him now. Let's keep recruiting Anthony Nelsons.
