Isn’t that often that Iowa gets players from Alabama, much less a running back from Alabama. Byrd had a number of offers from some Power 5 schools but settled with Iowa due to the connection he felt with running backs coach, Derrick Foster. Like Byrd, Foster is a native of Alabama and spent time coaching at a number of southern schools like Samford, Northwestern State and Valdosta State. Here’s your video:
From the CIC piece that was literally posted hours ago:
Byrd is a little bit quicker than he looks at first glance and is very good in the open field. He's also a patient runner who seems to read his blocks well and hit holes at the right time. And he displays some solid pass-catching ability, too. Byrd looks like an intriguing -- and welcome -- addition to Iowa's running back room.
Welcome aboard, Shadrick.
