IT'S WALK ON SZN:
HOMETOWN (HIGH SCHOOL): muskego, wi (muskego)
WEIGHT: 205 lbs
OTHER OFFERS: Minnesota-duluth, south dakota
I'm sorry did you say a walk on kicker? A walk on kicker that is 6'3, 205 pounds? I mean, does Iowa really need a kicker the size of a wide receiver? The answer is: ABSOLUTELY YES. Amaya attended the Kohl’s Kicking Academy and is ranked as their 96th best kicker. Their comments:
He has D1 physical abilities creating cleaner contact and more control on field goals and kickoffs will be key for his development. He scored 23 made kicks and his kickoffs were above average. His big ball at camp was a 72 yard 3.48 second blast. He has picked up punting and is making improvements as he gets more comfortable with it. Keeping the drop to the outside and using his natural lefty swing up and through will be key for his continued development as he places ball into his left leg power zone.
If he wants to improve his punting game and compete for punter immediately I don’t think you’d hear any complaints from any Iowa fans.
HOMETOWN (HIGH SCHOOL): pella, ia (pella)
WEIGHT: 260 LBS
OTHER OFFERS: air force, fordham, illinois state, north dakota
DeJong had offers from pretty much every FCS Powerhouse and even a FBS offer from Air Force. Instead, he’s deciding to stay close to home and walk on with the Hawkeyes. He was recruited as a strongside defensive end and also played some tight end but will be joining the Hawkeyes as an offensive lineman. A redshirt and Chris Doyle is in the works.
HOMETOWN (HIGH SCHOOL): gowrie, ia (valley)
WEIGHT: 197 LBS
OTHER OFFERS: upper iowa
TIL there is a place called Gowrie, Iowa and that there’s a school called Southeast Valley. What? Don’t blame me. I don’t pay a lot of attention to Northwest Iowa. Fisher was a Swiss-Army Knife for the 2A SE Valley Jaguars. He rushed for 2,046 yards and 31 touchdowns. He caught 18 passes for 195 yards and 2 touchdowns. He was 3rd overall in total offense in his class. On defense, where he played linebacker, he amassed 62 total tackles, recovered three fumbles and returned two of them for touchdowns. He led SE Valley to the Iowa High School Football Playoffs where they ultimately lost to championship runner up Rock Valley/Boyden-Hull.
Fisher is interesting because he’s clearly athletic, but he’s undersized and not terribly fast. Iowa is recruiting him as a defensive back so he could fit in at safety or as a linebacker hybrid in the future.
HOMETOWN (HIGH SCHOOL): WINTHROP, IA (EAST BUCHANAN)
WEIGHT: 265 LBS
OTHER OFFERS: AUGUSTANA, SIOUX FALLS, WAYNE STATE.
Fox had interest from a couple of smaller schools but ultimately decided to walk on at Iowa back in September. At 6’3", 265 pounds he’s obviously on the smaller side for an offensive lineman so he’ll need time to put on some weight. What does the fox say? Redshirt. He says redshirt.
