Iowa basketball's 2020 recruiting class got underway with the commitment of Ahron Ulis, a point guard prospect. On Sunday Iowa picked up a commitment from a potential back court partner for Ulis, Tony Perkins.

Welcome aboard, Saucy T.
Perkins, a 6'4", 185 lb shooting guard, is a 3* prospect per 247 and currently unranked by Rivals. He selected Iowa over offers from Toledo, Ball State, Miami (OH), Bradley, Purdue-Fort Wayne, Tampa, and Morehead State. Perkins plays his high school ball in Indianapolis and had 15.9 ppg (including 38.4% from deep), 4.8 rpg, and 3.0 apg for Lawrence North as a junior.
Iowa's strong fan support was what sold Perkins on committing to Iowa, based on his comments to Rivals.
“I think the moment that really stood out to me was the support I saw from the Iowa fans,” Perkins said. “They really stick behind their team and support them and I could see that on the visit.”
(Iowa was also, by a huge distance, his best offer, so...)
You can check out highlights of Perkins in action here:
One thing that stands out about Perkins in his highlights is his length -- he's got some long arms and legs. Fran has often prioritized length in prospects, so it's not surprising to see that Perkins is a somewhat lanky prospect. He also shows good athleticism in the highlights and some explosiveness in transition.
Welcome to Iowa City, Tony.
