Iowa wrestling's busy recruiting period continued earlier this week, with the addition of another verbal commitment: middleweight Cam Lucero.
Lucero is a two-time state finalist in Colorado, finishing as a runner-up at 132 lbs as a freshman and winning a state title as a sophomore last year after going 46-1 at 145 lbs. Per Trackwrestling and The Des Moines Register, Lucero is 76-8 overall as a prep. He hasn't garnered too much national recruiting buzz (and is not currently ranked by any of the major recruiting services), largely because he hasn't competed in too many national competitions thus far.
As IAWrestle noted, Lucero is the fourth commitment that Iowa has picked up from the big recruiting event they hosted over the weekend of October 19th. Henson, Schroeder, and Florida prep Bretli Reyna, Iowa's other three recent commits, were also at that event, as were current Class of 2020 commits Patrick Kennedy, Cullan and Colby Schriever, and Gabe Christenson. Not a bad success rate there.
Lucero has continued to grow throughout his high school career and currently projects to wrestle at 157 lbs or 165 lbs. That said, he's still two years away from setting foot on the Iowa campus, plus a likely redshirt year when he does get here, so there's plenty of time to sort out his weight. In the meantime, welcome aboard, Cam.
