Caring is Creepy 2021: Have a Seat, Justice Sullivan

Not a surprise: Iowa beat Illinois in football Saturday.

Not a surprise: Iowa beat Iowa State in wrestling and Cal Poly in basketball Sunday.

Maybe a bit of a surprise: Iowa got a 2021 commitment from linebacker/athlete Justice Sullivan Sunday afternoon.

Sullivan is a consensus four-star prospect, ranked in the Top 250 nationally by both Rivals and 247.  He's the second four-star commitment in Iowa's 2021 class, joining offensive tackle Connor Colby, and his commitment moves Iowa's nascent 2021 class into the national top ten at both recruiting services.

Which gets us to why Sullivan might be a bit of a surprise: He's been one of the most-pursued 2021 recruits in the Quadrangle of Hate.  You see, Sullivan is out of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; 247 ranks him as the second-best player in the state of Minnesota for 2021.  He held offers from Minnesota and Nebraska, and had enough interest from Wisconsin to justify an October visit.  In fact, Sullivan came to Iowa for the opener this year, but had made two visits to Minnesota since.  And while Iowa State hadn't offered Sullivan a scholarship, he had reason to wait for one: His dad is former Cyclone basketball player Jake Sullivan.

Which makes quotes like this all the better:

If Iowa can take four-star ISU legacy recruits with Wisconsin and Nebraska love out of P.J. Fleck's backyard more than a year before Signing Day, recruiting is going just fine.

Huh.  Wonder what happened over a week ago.
