Last weekend's Iowa-Penn State game served as the focal point of a monster recruiting weekend for, well, pretty much all Hawkeye sports. But so far we -- surprisingly -- hadn't gotten word about the football program adding any recruits in the aftermath of that game and its amazing atmosphere. Well, that changed with a late night commitment last night:

Johnson, a 6'1", 210 lb prospect out of Hamilton, Ohio, is ranked a 3* prospect by Rivals and 247 Sports and made his official visit to Iowa this past weekend for the Penn State game. One quirk of Johnson's visit though: he wasn't an uncommitted prospect. Johnson gave a verbal commitment to Cal over the summer. But he obviously wasn't fully content with that decision, given his move to take an official visit to Iowa. (The fact that Cal is 1-4 so far this season while Iowa is 6-0 and ranked #2 likely played a factor as well.) In addition to Cal, Johnson also had offers from Michigan State, Minnesota, Cincinnati, Pitt, Iowa State, and a host of MAC schools.

Johnson's the second RB commit Iowa has picked up in its 2022 class, after 4* prospect Jaziun Patterson committed to Iowa a few months ago. As Iowa fans know, though, you can never have enough running backs. Johnson has the listed measurements of a bigger back or a power back, but that doesn't really seem to be his game. He's a patient runner who does a good job of waiting for holes to develop and is skilled at bouncing runs outside. He's also got impressive speed in the open field and is good at changing directions and running away from defenders.

I mean, check out this run:

(Also: maybe Iowa needs to recruit that OL? What a goddamn block.)

Here's some more video of Johnson in action

Welcome to Iowa City, Kaleb.
