We generally root for Bob Diaco around these parts, as much as you can do so with a coordinator at a division rival. He's a Hayden Fry guy, and we would prefer if he gets bombed on by Iowa, while things are successful for the rest of the year. For the legacy, you know.
Things are not exactly successful in Lincoln, however. Nebraska fell to 4-5 (3-3) after an overtime loss to Northwestern, and Diaco offered this extremely helpful, not-at-all-bonkers answer for the defense's struggles. Full, unedited quote below the clip.
"There is no reasonable reason, considering where the defensive program was at, to believe that they should be able to do everything that needs to be done in a game, to win the game. The strain was spectacular, right, so we can just go back and look at the game. Then you see, do you see the strain — I mean, do you see it? Or no? Or is it just something that I'm missing? Right? You can't play a game like that and win. Right? So the things that happened in the game create an impossible circumstance to win."
We don't know if Bob needs a nap, or a stiff drink, or just for the offseason to arrive, but dude is struggling hard with the whole "words that come out of the mouth that make sense in that order" deal.
If you have any idea what this strain is, if you see it or if Diaco's missing it, or how an overtime game is impossible to win, please let us know in the comments as soon as possible.
