We are back for week six and coming off of what might have been the hottest week in Spread Awareness history! Our 5-2-1 record almost made us forget about the terrible, awful, no good Iowa football game that was played. Almost. But listen, I have some news for everyone that you may find shocking.

Ready? Iowa might be bad at football. I know, it is a hard pill to swallow, but at some point, we will have to accept that. Luckily, watching election coverage has made one thing very clear: talking points make everything better. If you can muster up 3-4 solid points and just keep repeating them, I am fairly certain you automatically win 99% of arguments. So, I have developed a few points that you should keep handy in case a non-Iowa fan wants to start talking about our lack of success on the football field.

  1. It’s hard nearly impossible to break in a new QB during a pandemic! As complicated as Iowa’s offense is, you can’t expect a new QB to step in and understand it without going through spring practice or getting to play a few bad teams like Eastern Michigan and Iowa State to get the hang of things! Totally unfair!

  2. A global pandemic is happening, maybe stop caring so much about how your teams defending the spread offense and start caring more about how you are defending yourself from COVID-19.

  3. It has been a really bad year for football teams at basketball schools. Teams ranked inside the top eight of CBS Sports Preseason College Basketball Power Rankings are a combined 5-18 on the football field. Whoa! Rough start to the football season for basketball bluebloods!

Now that you have your talking points, let’s find some winners. We need them after everything that has occurred this last week.

P.S. If you would like to take part in the first-ever SPREAD AWARENESS ELECTION please respond to the ballot on the bottom of this article using the comment section.

B1G TEN LOCKS OF THE WEEK

Michigan State +6.5 vs Iowa (11:00 AM CST, ESPN)

What is going on with Spencer Petras? I get that he has never started before this season but come on, he has had more overthrows than Thailand’s government. Sure, it isn’t his fault that Brian Ferentz randomly decided to throw the ball 50 times in a game (WTF?), but it would help if he could maybe tone it down a bit. He reminds me of a high school pitcher who throws 100 mph but has absolutely no idea where it is going. Ugh.

Anyway, I have no idea how Iowa is almost a touchdown favorite in this one. Michigan State is pretty awful, but they have scored multiple touchdowns in the second half of games which is something Iowa refuses to do. I was going to say #MSUnders could be back this week, but the O/U is sitting at 46.5 and that just seems off to me. I don’t trust Iowa enough to cover this, but my BOLD PREDICTION for the week is this: Iowa WILL score a touchdown in the 2nd half.

PICK: MICHIGAN STATE +6.5, OVER 46.5

#23 Michigan -3 @ #13 Indiana (11:00 AM CST, FS1)

Hoosiers!!! A win here and we could have ourselves a TOP 10 ranked Indiana team, what a time to be alive! Indiana has been pretty good to us so far this year, covering the 1st half spread in both of their games. We are going to continue to ride that train, and because Indiana is now the official OTHER team of Spread Awareness, we are going to take them to cover for the entire game as well. Michigan is garbage and as I stated last week, Harbaugh is 100% looking at NFL jobs by now.

PICK: INDIANA +1.5 1H, INDIANA +3 GAME

Nebraska +3.5 @ Northwestern (11:00 AM CST, BTN)

Nebraska Complaint of the Week

WAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH WAHHHHHHHHH WAHHHHHHHH

PICK: NORTHWESTERN -3.5

Minnesota -7 @ Illinois (2:30 PM CST, BTN)

I have absolutely no interest in this game and you shouldn’t either.

PICK: #5 Georgia -3.5 vs #8 Florida

Maryland +25 @ Penn State (2:30 PM CST, BTN)

Another game on the slate where I have no idea what to do. At one point I said Maryland was the new Rutgers of the Big Ten, then they went and scored 45 points on Minnesota. Some would say Minnesota is really bad though, so who knows if Maryland is bad too? And Penn State, what do we think about them? They kind of got screwed having to open up the season against ALMOST Top Ten-ranked Indiana and #3 Ohio State. They finally get a game where they should be the better team, but Maryland has Taulia Tagovailoa at QB, so does that even things out? I DON’T KNOW.

PICK: OVER 64.5, **SEE ELECTION BELOW**

Rutgers +37 @ #3 Ohio State (6:30 PM CST, BTN)

Last 3 scores of Ohio State vs Rutgers games: 56-0, 58-0, 49-7. Oh boy.

PICK: OHIO STATE -37, UNDER 65

PAC 12 BEFORE BRUNCH

USC -10.5 vs Arizona State (11:00 AM CST, FOX)

The Pac 12 comes roaring back into our lives by starting games at 11 AM which is fantastic. I am not sure how the teams will react to playing at 9 AM their time, but I imagine it will be hard to get going for a game that early with no crowd. How do I know this? I played NAIA baseball (basically the same as D1 football, right???), every weekend we played games in front of 0 people at 9 AM, and let me tell you, the energy was LOW.

PICK: UNDER 55.5, ARIZONA STATE +10.5

PAC 12 AFTER DARK

Washington State +1.5 @ Oregon State (9:30 PM CST, FS1)

PAC 12 AFTER DARK TO SAVE US FROM ALL THE BAD BETS WE MADE ALL DAY, LET'S GO! I assume this game will be awful but it's late-night football, so take the OVER and pray for chaos.

PICK: OVER 65.5
