Ahoy there! The 2021 college football season is getting underway which of course also means that it's time for the Go Iowa Awesome Pick 'Em contest to make its triumphant return as well. We're a little bit late -- I meant to get this out earlier in the week, apologies -- but the only game that we really missed that would have been part of this week's Pick 'Em selection was Ohio State-Minnesota. Fortunately, there are still a bevy of worthwhile Week 1 showdowns to include in our picks.
Once again, we're going through FunOfficePools.com to host the game. If you've participated in a previous GIA Football (or Bowl) Pick 'Em contest, you should have received an email from FunOfficePools inviting you to join this year's game. (My apologies if you received multiple emails; I promise not to spam your inbox during the season.) You can just click through the instructions in that email and join this year's group.
But you're welcome to join up this year if you haven't participated in a previous GIA Football Pick 'Em contest as well. You can sign up by clicking here. If you need it, the group information is:
GROUP: 2021 Go Iowa Awesome Football Pick Em
A few notes about this year's game:
- As usual, we'll be picking all Big Ten games each week, as well as a selection of other games from around the nation. I'm going to aim for an average of 15-18 games per week.
- Each correct pick is worth one point.
- Game picks are against the spread, so keep that in mind when making your selections. For instance, Iowa is listed as -3.5 against Indiana this week. That means they're a 3.5 point favorite in the game. If you think Iowa will beat Indiana by 4 or more points, select the Hawkeyes in the Pick Em contest. If you think Iowa will beat Indiana by less than 4 points (or you think Indiana will beat Iowa straight-up), then you should select Indiana in the Pick Em contest. Got it?
- The prize for this year's winner is my eternal admiration and respect, as well as a more tangible item that is currently TBD, but will likely involve something from the Go Buyowa Awesome store.
NOTE: This week does include a Friday game, Michigan State-Northwestern, as well as a Sunday game (Notre Dame-Florida State). There will be more Friday games to pick this season as well. I don't anticipate that we'll be picking many games that aren't on a Friday or Saturday, though, since those tend to be the only days of the week when the Big Ten plays regular season games. Anyway, be sure to get your picks in!
