I need a cigarette after reading all this punting talk
Celebrating horizontal football since 2011
He's done it, we've finally achieved PEAK FERENTZ. Might as well shut down all future press conferences, there's nothing left to do here folks.
That's why you're the judge and I'm the law-talking guy.
Jesus, now I know how I sound when I’m talking to students. Back in the day we did this...and to be a good Pharmer, you should do that. Although mostly I’d say drug A or drug B, and not punting. Mostly. At least I don’t wear khakis (at work). Have I become KFarmer?

There is Kirk.
There is no New Kirk.
There is no Old Kirk.
There is only Kirk.
There has always been Kirk.
There always will be Kirk.
The world turns
the pendulum of time swings
and the tides ebb and flow.
And Kirk perseveres unmoved.
the puntulum of time imo
There's a part of me that fears Kirk might be prepping for his immediate retirement. With a presser like this, he's got to be thinking about going out on top.
I think he stays as long as it takes to make it just palatable enough for Brian to take over, well, palatable enough for the powers that be.
If anyone is watching the Wisky vs. Goofer BB game tonight, I'm wondering about something kinda serious...only 2 foul calls in the first half of the game. I counted two fouls on one play under the hoop. This "loose" play will not be good for the BIG10 in the NCAA tournament, allowing these kids to feel comfortable in high physical, low foul calling games will insure foul trouble when the referees are not from the BIG10 conference. Any thoughts on this??

It's an issue almost every year, but it's always inconsistent whether it truly affects anything.
The problem is that flopsconsin and MSU don't get called consistently
I totally agree, I do not think the B10 does its BB teams any favors by letting the play be so physical in the B10 season, I think it is why teams largely under perform (outside of Michigan, which is more finesse than physical) in the NCAA tournament.
East Ridge Hawk
Oh my lord that was glorious!!!
That could not have been more on brand. Are you sure he didn't scribble some notes and twirl his fingers at some point?
He probably did, but such details are lost in the transcript, sadly.
How many gum switches?
Punting is a bold strategy, let's see if it pays off for them.
Damn, you beat me to it.

No scholarships for good punters means few good punters will come. It is pretty simple.
Still waiting for 2nd FB NC.
I think Gersonde is on scholarship. I don’t exactly know how that’s really working out for us, though. To be fair, I think I read that he ended up redshirting last year? I could be wrong. I think KF’s ultimate point is that kids don’t want to grow up to be punters, and therefore nobody practices at it like they could/should. I could be wrong again.
You think KF will reference this press conference in future press conferences as the one time he genuinely enjoyed talking to the press?
Waiting for the next time Michigan comes to visit
Wait, what? You factor in hang time? Apparently we need to tell them that it's not golf. Lower isn't better. Also, a direction that avoids your blockers is a good idea as well. If you're counting on the ball rolling for 30 yards, you might want to avoid their players. I wonder what our average punt was after our opponents started to practice fielding those.
"But what really tells you the picture, you factor in hang time, directional punting, all those types of things that we ask our guys to do."
Even without you saying his name, your words are very hurtful to one Colton Rastetter. Apologize! He's trying the best he can and is NOT shaving yards off his kicks for his health. Why would you criticize someone that's trying hard?
I strongly prefer winning over losing.
The problems I mentioned above are based on the rugby-style punt that was a coaching decision. Rather than use it situationally, like into a blustery wind, Rastetter was coached to use it almost exclusively this year. That is NOT how he came to Iowa.
