Okay, for the fellow old folks, and hard to believe I'm writing this:  "Nixon now, more than ever."

I was catching up on the season premier of Preacher last night, and Cassidy was wearing a tee shirt with that on it.

Mekhi is kind of a jack of all trades, a little bit of a utility knife

By this he means he can run left, right or between the tackles.

AIRBHG thinks Mekhi's best tool is the bottle opener.

I think they are thinking about Mekhi's ability as a pass catcher and pass blocker.

He's the most well rounded of the RBs, at least as evidenced by last season.

The problem is typically not the back, but the way they're used.

That being said, they look the part.

Just wait until he goes up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, select, start. That’s when the fun begins.

You've pinpointed the problem.
That's what was missing last year. He needs to go directly from A to Start. He doesn't need to waste time with "select."

Huh, I remember that I had to hit select playing Contra. COULD I HAVE BEEN MORE EFFICIENT IN MY HIGH SCHOOL CHEATING?!?

Nico was a German singer that was with the Velvet Underground for a while. Nico Ragaini is a slot receiver who will probably see a bit of playtime this season.

Pretty sure the album, Velvet Underground and Nico, was the Velvet Underground's first. Either way, it's a good one. Andy Warhol banana on the cover.

Could have also used Neko and Her Boyfriends, but that’s probably not as cool sounding.

Better luck next year Toren.

I'm not worried about the RBs.  None of them are going to be consistent home run hitters but they should be able to pick up more of the yards they didn't get last year.... given one other factor: we need to get the interior OL sorted out and blocking well.  Linderbaum is a pitbull that rockets off the line, but he's still a RS frosh with only one year in the program.  Banwart is experienced, and the other guys vying for that other guard spot have at least been in S&C for several years, but I'm still a bit leery.  It's not often that a Ferentz OL hasn't been sorted out in August and ended up being high-quality in September.

If Jack Koerner can stick his thumb in a pie and pull out a plumb, I see no reason why he would not be able to start at FS.

There is a reason Nixon was welcomed back after being in the transfer portal, he’s fucking really good and the Hawks needed him desperately.  I’ll be the conductor of his hype train.  Kids gonna make a big boy impact this year on the line.  All aboard!!! Toot toot!!!

Disclaimer: The train reference is in no way a positive reference to OMHR.  There is only one place for that train, and it’s the scrap yard.

solid hype and rival bashing, 10/10 would read again.

I think the worry spots are FS, LG, and TE. Otherwise we appear pretty solid. Stanley needs to be 60% accurate this year. If we can get that and some HRs from the RBs, we are in business to win B1G.

I think you mean FS and LG. This is TE U.

Part of me is like, Henry Krieger-Coble, George Kittle, Brandon Myers, etc. etc. were backups until they were upperclassmen, and our new starter was behind not one, but two NFL-level talents.

But it's worrisome that we went back to 3 WRs on the depth chart rather than 2 TEs.  Our WR corps has to produce this year or we're going to have issues.

Yep.  Also, it's not like the WR corps is exactly a known quantity.  I think some of us are getting ahead of ourselves with the comparisons to McNutt/DJK.  It's hard for me to imagine us losing a couple of absolute studs like Hockenson and Fant and getting better on offense.  We'll see though.

Right, I'm not at all worried about the wide receiver position as if it will be a dumpster fire, but I certainly don't think it will be any better than it usually is. It will probably be lower than average or around average, which is where Iowa usually is. So that makes it not a worry, but it also makes it not a positive.

At least in my opinion.

I think Brandon Smith is a very gifted and dangerous receiver. He does not have McNutts numbers yet but I see Smith having a breakout season and eventually playing on Sunday

I mena, sure, but why didn't he do it last year?

Who knows? ISM could be a 1200 yard receiver. These guys are all athletic talents. As a high school rugby coach, I know the fun of having a super athletic player and hoping he puts it all together. It's much funner thinking about than the ho-hum guy who is steady Eddy.

So yeah, sure, maybe it will happen. I'm not discounting it. But I'm also not going to say he's going to do it and therefore say Iowa's WR group is a positive and dangerous group.

Accuracy isn't Stanley's thing. I would be happy with 60% during warm-ups.

It has taken soooooooooooooo painfully long to recover from the Davis/Kennedy receiver recruiting debacle.  It is really nice to think that there is a good group of receivers in place.  More experience at running back and the receivers establishing themselves as actual threats should go a long way towards having a good running game too.
