Why the BTN won't show it on one of their alternate stations is beyond me. Let the universities do the work. I know I sound like a broken record because I bitched about this last year, too.
Still waiting for 2nd FB NC.
I'll echo what many on this site and BHGP have said... I have found the $150 annual FLO subscription to be worth it. Especially with this year being an Olympic year. They cover any and all meets you would want to see, and their documentaries are put together very well. Also, all B1G meets are on FLO.
Crimson and cream is what is going to be left on the mat after IU's "D1" team is finished. They had a good thing going for a while; Mike Mena was an assistant. WTF happened?
This is going to be a blood bath.
Iowa's listed starters: 99 - 111, 89% win percentage
Indiana's listed starters: 108 - 118, 48% win percentage
That looks gaudy, but it gets even worse when you see that 7 of Iowa's 11 losses are at 184 lbs.
Iowa potentially has a line up with a ranked wrestler at every weight. Indiana has a 174 lber ranked 27th and he gets Kem Dog after a layoff. Not sure how the Hoosiers score any points (other than injury default or DQ).
The other side of this and the Purdue dual is that it would be nice for these teams to get some wrestling presence. I would hate to see the B1G allow them to drop wrestling and further weaken the fabric of the sport across the country.
Updates from anyone taking in the broadcast would be most appreciated.
KXIC on the internet has the radio call if anyone wants to listen
Lugo won 10-5 (I think). 1st period TD and 4 NFs on a tilt and TD in the 3rd. Gave up one or two TDs I believe. Started strong, but was sloppy in his positioning after going up 6-0.
We got here late (kid's wrestling practice ran late). Missed the Lugo match.
KY was up 9-2 with 20 seconds to go. RT locked up. Gives up a TD. Gets the escape with 5ish seconds left to win 11-4. Absolutely CANNOT give up a TD in the final 20 when you're up 7 with RT.
The guy Lugo went against upset Yahya Thomas at the Midlands. I believe he is only a freshman and seems tough as nails. He was able to get to Lugo's legs consistently and not give up points whenever Lugo stopped his shots and worked for go-behinds. Still, you'd like to see Lugo able to put away guys like this if he's going to give confidence that he's the #1 guy in the country.
Kaleb Young won a ho-hum match against Silva. Gave up a TD at the end which isn't ideal. Indiana wrestlers are putting up a formidable fight thus far at home.
Commentators are questioning whether The Bulls gas tank can keep up with the pace that this Davey guy has. Stand by...
It was fine.
Here live. Much better facility than their previous one.
It seems like a good environment for a school like Indiana in wrestling. I'm excited to see what Angel Escobedo can do at Indiana. It's always fun to see an alumnus (Escobedo is a former national champion and a 4x AA from Indiana for Indiana) find success at their alma mater. He seems like a good guy to galvanize the fanbase and help get support for the program.
6-2 Bull after 1. Only 50 sec riding time.
9-3 after 2. Riding time 1:30.
Not the first time Marinelli put an opponent in a figure 4 headlock to get the fall. Fairly certain he's used that maybe 5 times.
Guess the gas tank was ok
Marinelli up 9-3 after 2. Davey chooses down to start the 3rd. Good for him.
Kemdawg up 4-2 after 1. Over minute riding time.
4-3 after 2. Decent defense from the IU guy.
Escapes Kemerer. 5-3 1:37 riding time.
Kemdog is a TD machine. IU's wrestler has fought off 5 legit shots from Kemdog. Actually impressive defense from IU guy.
Trade takedowns and escapes. 8-6, 9-6 final with riding time. Overall 15-0 Iowa lead.
Kemerer has looked good this year, but this match leaves me with more questions than answers about how well he'll hold up come the end of the season. Hopefully he's just been under the weather because 'tis the season or he's not quite yet rounded into form after he's injury. His tank looked empty coming off the mat just now.
Covaaciu from IU put up a valiant fight. He's a tough out. Was in deep a few times in the 3rd. Tied it up in the 3rd. Released Kemdog and Kemdog got back in immediately on a shot to win 8-6.
Assad takes off the redshirt.
nevermind i looked at the tattoos wrong. Well this is interesting.
Assad at 184. WOW.
they put out Abe?
Iowa is going HARD for the title this year.
New site, still just some hawkeye fan
Nice TD by Assad. Over a min riding time so far. Up 2-0 after 1.
Assad down to start 2nd. Escape.
3-0 after 2. Still over min riding time. Assad starts on top.
5-2 final. Pretty dominant from Assad.
Call me an ass, but I feel like Assad just showed the Iowa coaching staff that he's better at underperforming than Wilke.
I don't know. It felt like he was in control the whole time.
Assad was much more active against Lujan in finals (and really the whole Midlands Tourney). Given the opponents maybe there's some intense training that the coaches are putting the wrestlers through. All Iowa guys have looked flat tonight.
True freshman, first match under the bright lights at arguably the Mecca of college wrestling.
Il give him a pass
So Wilkinson Hall is "the Mecca" of college wrestling???
whoops thought it was in Iowa
just replace that with "away game"
So you're saying there are a lot of Iowa fans there that make it a neutral site?
"True freshman, first match under the bright lights at arguably the away game. Il give him a pass."
10 min Intermission.
Abe tech'd that guy at Midlands, dude must have learned
I'm thinking they're just saving something for Purdue.
Warner fights off a shot and scores the TD.
Up 4-1 after 1, 2 min even riding time.
4-2 after 3. Down to start 3rd.
TD Warner. Riding time locked up.
8-3 final score. Team score 21-0.
Big Cass with the pin in 20 sec!! Bear hug to a TD onto his back. That was fast.
TD Lee off the whistle. Slow NF count only gets 2 more. And welcome to tilt town for 4 more.
And 4 more...
12-0 after 1. First time seeing Lee in person. Man, he works hard on top. Lee takes down to start 2nd with a quick escape. TD, tech fall 15-0.
ADS: TD, release, TD, 2 NF, 4NF, TD, release, TD, release, TD, and pin!! All in about 1:30.
He just plays with his food.
Apparently ADS didn't get enough work in during his match. On the bike the whole Murin match.
Did ADS seem as electric in person as he did on camera? Because on camera he just swooped in at the last second to shake hands then donkey konged in under 2 minutes.
That is exactly what he did. He was pacing in front of the bench a little, then the ref signaled ready, and that was that.
Murin up to finish it off with a HUGE brace on his left shoulder.
Murin with a nice double and ride out to finish the 1st. 2-0.
Nice ride out for Murin. 2-0.
Escape Murin. 3-0
TD off a nice scramble. 5-0.
5-0 final win for Murin. Final team score 41-0.
See everyone Sunday for Purdue.
Thanks for all of the updates!
2nd half much better than the first, wish they would've gotten a few more bonus points to start
That said, very happy they went in and took care of business. Taking the shirt off Assad is the biggest take away, they are absolutely going for it, especially with Penn States injury issues
Thanks to all who shared results tonight. You guys may not know it but, there were some excellent descriptions of the action and matches tossed out tonight. "he just plays with his food" "Assad just showed the Iowa coaching staff he is better at underperforming than Wilke". Just freaking awesome commentary!
Thanks to IndyHawkeye and everyone who was able to post results tonight. I was away from my computer, unfortunately. (I'm probably also going to be away from my computer during the Purdue dual, unfortunately, so won't be able to do live updating then, either.)
