Farewell, 2020-21 college basketball season. Baylor's emphatic win over Gonzaga on Monday night puts a bow on another season of college hoops, one that featured some very good times for our Iowa Hawkeyes -- and some decidedly less good times, like the season's conclusion. It also featured an NCAA Tournament, though, the first in two years, which also meant we got to indulge in one of our favorite pastimes: filling out brackets.
Who was the best of the best at filling out a bracket in this year's bracket challenge game? Not me. My picks were terrible; turns out losing a Final Four team on the first day and your national champion pick in the opening game of the second round is bad. Thanks for nothing, Big Ten! Fortunately, there were much wiser prognosticators among the GIA faithful than me.
Congratulations to MarkyMarkGrace by PitznoggleTastesLikePitznoggle! for winning this GIA bracket challenge. This entry correctly picked three of four Final Four participants (everyone but UCLA), as well as the final match-up of Gonzaga and Baylor. It also correctly picked Baylor to win that game. Well done! Email me at ross-at-goiowaawesome-dot-com to collect your winnings.
A special shout-out to the runner-up entry, brodie52879 1, which nailed all of the Final Four teams (including UCLA!), the title game pairing, AND the eventual champion. Unfortunately, there was some dropped ground in the early rounds that was too much to make up, even with the big points doled out for correct picks in the later rounds, and it fell short by 30 points. Still, I tip my cap to that entry, and all the others that correctly picked UCLA into the Final Four. That was a bold selection, but it ended up being a damn good one.
Thanks to one and all for participating in this year's bracket challenge game. The final standings are available here.
