Hello and welcome to the new and improved (and emotionally stable) Spread Awareness. We will no longer be screaming picks at you after the unfortunate incident last week that led to our suspension. We did a lot of soul searching during the suspension, we meditated, did yoga, worked on our breathing, and now we see everything clearly. The 0-5 record picking against the spread has been blocked out of our brain (the 5-0 record picking the totals has not been forgotten), we are 0-0 ATS now. Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose.
HOW WE GOT HERE
#21 IOWA (21-10) at Nebraska (15-15)
- LINE: Iowa -1.5
- O/U: 150
- WHEN: Sunday, March 10 @ 1 PM CST
- WHERE: Pinnacle Bank Arena (BTN)
Hard times have fallen upon our Hawkeyes. Losers of four of their last five games, things can’t get much worse. Sure, Iowa has been outscored 377-328 in their last five games, but did you know Iowa has beaten Nebraska seven out of the last 10 times they have played? Rivalry shmivalry, am I right????
Nebraska has had a tough year, here is a short list of things you should know before the game:
- They have lost 11 of their last 14 games.
- Guard Nana Akenten was just suspended for the remainder of the season.
- Tim Miles is going to get fired (don’t worry though, he is still a millionaire.)
Lincoln is buzzing with talk of who the next coach will be, Tyronne Lue, Dana Altman, Fred Hoiberg? I think it will be Lou so that he can join fellow 1990’s Husker athletes Scott Frost and Darin Erstad as a Nebraska head coach. Apparently, Nebraska fans think collecting players from the 1990s and giving them head coaching jobs is like collecting infinity stones, except instead of wiping out half of the universe when they are done they plan on sending everyone back to 1994.
- Iowa ATS (season): 12-18
- Iowa ATS (away): 3-6
- Nebraska ATS (season): 13-15-1
- Nebraska ATS (home): 8-6-1
Iowa basketball has failed to cover the spread 7 games in a row. Nebraska is 3-12 ATS in their last 15 games. Although it seems that neither team has the ability to win a game anymore, I have checked with my most trusted sources in and around college basketball and they have informed me that both teams cannot lose this game.
Here is some positive news: Iowa and Nebraska have gone OVER 150 points the last four times they have played. Nebraska has given up 95, 75, 82, and 91 points in their last four games while Iowa has given up 70, 90, 86, and 65. Sure, Iowa only scored 45 points in their last game, but Nebraska hates playing defense just as much as Iowa and if the total was set at 200 points for this game I would still take the over.
As someone who lives in Lincoln, I have been to Husker basketball games and I have seen teams come into Pinnacle Bank Arena and fall apart. The Huskers even managed a 22-game home winning streak at one point, so it’s no easy place to play, even if the team is terrible. I also watched Nebraska lose at home to Incarnate Word one time so maybe it isn't that intimidating of a place...
Iowa covers the spread and ruins Tim Miles' final game coaching in the arena the Husker fans once dubbed “The House that Tim Built.” We are also taking the over because everyone knows it is against the University of Nebraska Athletic Department policy to play defense in Lincoln.
If you are still not sure you can trust Spread Awareness picks against the spread, my grandpa, who is known only by the name “Husker Gambling Wizard” has informed me that due to injuries and suspensions, Iowa is going to win BIGLY this week.
