A few thoughts:

  • Only two MBB games on BTN+ this season (plus the exhibition game against Truman State). That's good to see -- all other games will be on BTN, FS1, ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU, CBS Sports, or FOX. THat ought to make it easier to watch Iowa hoops this season, depending on your cable/streaming package of choice.

  • Iowa is set to have eight games on ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU, which is more than they've had on The Worldwide Leader in a single season in a while. The Duke game is the headliner, but they're set to have five Big Ten games on ESPN/ESPN2 as well. Seems like it pays dividends to be the reigning Big Ten Tournament champions. Probably also some hope that Kris Murray might have a similar breakout season this year like Keegan Murray did last year.

  • Outside of those ESPN games, most Iowa games will be on BTN (12) or FS1 (5), although it looks like two games (1/21 at Ohio State and 2/4 against Illinois) are set to be on (big) FOX. That's more nice national TV exposure for Fran & Co.

A few thoughts:

  • Unlike MBB, WBB isn't so lucky in terms of avoiding BTN+ games -- the ladies are set for seven games on that service (plus the exhibition against Nebraska-Kearney). And it could be slightly more than that too, as there are a handful of games on the WBB schedule that don't have TV/streaming partners announced yet. The silver lining is that five of the seven BTN+ games are for Iowa's less-fancied non-conference opponents (aka, the cupcake tour, give or take UNI).

  • Two non-conference road games (Drake, Kansas State) don't have TV/streaming partners designated yet, but they seem likely to be on ESPN+ (both the Missouri Valley Conference and the Big 12 Conference have deals with ESPN/ESPN+).

  • On the bright side, Iowa's most high-profile non-conference games (the games against Oregon State, UConn/Duke, NC State, and Iowa State) are all set to be on accessible cable -- or network -- TV channels. If Iowa plays UConn (as expected) in their second game of the Phil Knight Legacy Tournament over Thanksgiving weekend, that game should be on ABC.

  • In fact, Iowa could have three games on network TV this season (that UConn game on ABC, plus 1/7 vs Michigan and 1/28 vs Nebraska on FOX), which is quite a coup in terms of national TV exposure for WBB. God bless The Caitlin Clark Effect.

  • It will also be pretty easy to see most of Iowa's Big Ten games as well -- 14 of 18 league games are set to be on BTN, FS1, ESPN/ESPN2, or FOX. Two games are set for BTN+ and two (12/4 vs Wisconsin and 1/18 vs Michigan State) don't yet have TV partners.

  • Overall, it looks like right now at least 18 Iowa games will be on cable (BTN, FS1, ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU) or network (ABC, FOX) channels this season, with the potential for a few more games to land there as well. That's a very good level of coverage and will make it far easier for Iowa fans to watch Caitlin Clark & Co. this year. This is definitely a change from the way things were in the not-too-distant past as well, both for Iowa in specific and for WBB more broadly, too. Cable channels like BTN and ESPN have been adding more WBB games in recent years and we're seeing other cable channels (like FS1) and now even network channels (ABC, FOX) add more WBB coverage as well, which is great to see. Iowa's able to be at the forefront of that increased coverage by virtue of their recent on-court success and their high-scoring, exciting style -- and, of course, by having Caitlin Clark, one of the most popular and exciting players in the entire sport.

Don't forget that you can always get the most current information on Iowa's schedule (and results) for MBB and WBB by accessing the schedule page here at GIA -- either by clicking here or by hovering over "BASKETBALL" at the top of the screen and selecting the option labeled "Basketball Schedule." I'll be keeping that page updated all season long with the schedule and results for both Iowa MBB and Iowa WBB.
