Guys Being Dudes vs. That's Football. This one's for all the pinstripes!
Iowa has officially accepted a bid from the New Era Pinstripe Bowl in the Bronx, New York, to face Boston College at Yankee Stadium. Kickoff is 4:15 p.m. CT on December 27, and the game will be televised on ESPN.
(Yes, Queens isn't even on the same island as the Bronx. I'm sticking with it.)
Boston College finished 7-5 and 4-4 in the ACC this season, and features talented running back AJ Dillion, the ACC rookie of the year who rushed for 1,432 yards and 13 touchdowns and threw a guy. The Golden Eagles' head coach is Steve Addazio, creator of this iconic clip:
The destination is by far the farthest north Iowa will have played in a bowl game, though the Hawkeyes did play two Kickoff Classics at Giants Stadium in nearby East Rutherford, NJ. The weather in New York in December is a far different beast, though, and it'll likely be even colder than the Hawkeyes' 35-degree parade of misery at the 1983 Gator Bowl.
We'll have lots more to say about this game in the coming weeks, but if you've never been to New York, you should go. It is awesome in the most literal sense of the word, and Yankee Stadium is certainly one of the nicest places you'll ever watch a football game. Don't overthink it: if you *can* go, go. Trust us.
