For Iowa fans (and players) the theme of the NFL Draft the last few years has been "the waiting game." Josh Jackson was widely projected as a R1 pick last year, but ended up sliding into the second round and falling to the Green Bay Packers with the 45th pick. (He ended up not even being the first Iowa player taken, as James Daniels was snapped up by the Chicago Bears with the 39th pick.)

The year before Desmond King was the Iowa player who was made to wait, as the two-time All-American and Thorpe Award winner had to wait until the third day of the NFL Draft and the fifth round before the San Diego Los Angeles Chargers took him with the 151st overall pick. It was a fairly long wait in general for Iowa players, as C.J. Beathard was the first Hawkeye player taken, when San Francisco got him in the third round with the 104th pick. Those waits were nothing compared to what happened in 2016, when Austin Blythe became the one and only Iowa player drafted with one of the very last picks in the draft (248th overall, late in the seventh round).

That's (probably) not going to happen this year. At least one of Iowa's superstar tight ends is going to be taken in the first round, and very likely two of them will be. T.J. Hockenson is a fixture in the first round of mock drafts and Noah Fant has been a pretty frequent selection in the first round as well, especially after his scorching NFL Combine performance. Thursday night ought to be a very exciting night for both Hockenson and Fant. Iowa's other two NFL Draft early entrants, defensive back Amani Hooker and defensive lineman Anthony Nelson, won't be selected as early, but should hear their names called fairly early on as well.

Let's take a look at some mock drafts...

ESPN (McShay/Kiper):

T.J. Hockenson: #7, Jacksonville Jaguars
Noah Fant: #30, Green Bay Packers
Amani Hooker: #91 (R3), Los Angeles Chargers

Noah Fant: #12, Green Bay Packers

CBS Sports (Ryan Wilson):

T.J. Hockenson: #7, Jacksonville Jaguars

CBS Sports (Chris Trapasso):

CBS Sports (R.J. White):

T.J. Hockenson: #16, Detroit Lions (after trade with Carolina)
Noah Fant: #18, Minnesota Vikings

NFL.com (Charles Davis):

T.J. Hockenson: #9, Buffalo Bills

Pro Football Focus (Cris Collingsworth):

T.J. Hockenson: #19, Tennessee Titans
Noah Fant: #24, Oakland Raiders

Pro Football Focus (Steve Palazzolo):

T.J. Hockenson: #21, Seattle Seahawks
Noah Fant: #44, Green Bay Packers
Anthony Nelson: #56, New England Patriots
Amani Hooker: #59, Indianapolis Colts

The Ringer (Danny Kelly):

T.J. Hockenson: #20, Denver Broncos
Noah Fant: #24, Oakland Raiders

Pro Football Talk (Mike Florio):

T.J. Hockenson: #8, Detroit Lions
Noah Fant: #20, Pittsburgh Steelers

...whew. That seems like enough. Based on the mock draft experts, there's a pretty good chance of one or both Iowa tight ends suiting up for NFC North teams next season. Hockenson to the Lions at #8 is a pretty popular pick, as is Fant to the Packers (at a few different picks).

Where do you think Fant, Hockenson, and the rest of the Iowa players get taken in the NFL Draft? Where do you want them to go? Hit up the comments and let us know.
