It took longer than we would have liked -- until halfway through the second quarter -- but Iowa picked up their first touchdown of the 2019 season on a pass from Nate Stanley to Brandon Smith. Stanley lofted a pretty pass in the air and Smith used his high school high jump skills to go up and get the ball. They connected on a similar play on Iowa's previous drive, but Smith wasn't able to bring the ball down inbounds. He had no such issues this times.
The touchdown was set up by some strong play from Mekhi Sargent earlier in the drive, including a 41-yard catch-and-run on a screen pass on 3rd and 16. Sargent has picked up over 100 total yards of offense in the first half (47 yards rushing, 55 yards receiving).
Iowa leads 10-7 in the second quarter.
