After Saturday's loss to Michigan, Iowa dropped a few spots in the Week 7 polls -- bt not too far.
THE WEEK 7 AP POLL
|3||Ohio State (10)||6-0||1393|
At the top of the poll, Ohio State continued their steady climb up the rankings after dispatching Michigan State and Florida made a notable jump to #7 after knocking off Auburn in one of the weekend's biggest games. Penn State was also able to take advantage of Auburn's defeat to hope into the Top 10 at #10, meaning that Iowa's primetime showdown with them this weekend will feature a Top 10 opponent; let's hope for plenty of Kinnick Magic in that game.
Outside of Auburn, Iowa was the biggest dropper of the week (at least among teams who remained ranked -- Kansas State fell from #21 to unranked and Washington fell from #15 to out of the polls entirely after losing to a 2-3 Stanford team), falling three spots from #14 to #17. Several teams in the teens or early 20s of last week's rankings made slight jumps, thanks to losses by Washington, UCF, Oklahoma State, and Michigan State. Baylor, Memphis, and Cincinnati are this week's poll newbies.
THE WEEK 7 COACHES POLL
|4||Ohio State (3)||6-0||1422|
It's much the same at the top of the Coaches Poll, except with Ohio State still behind Georgia and LSU still behind Oklahoma, unlike their AP brethren. Penn State also hopped into the Top 10 in these rankings, and is even slotted one spot higher (#9) than the AP rankings.
Iowa fell four spots in the Coaches Poll rankings, from #14 to #18. SMU, Baylor, Arizona State, and 5-0 Minnesota are the newcomers to the Coaches Poll this week. A 5-0 Minnesota team is a truly baffling concept that this season is forcing us to consider.
