Gene Wilder, a UI alum and one of the finest comedic actors of the 20th century, passed away on Monday.  He was 83.  The New York Times eulogized him far better than I could, so I'll defer to their words on this occasion.

I'll always remember him as Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, where he was nimble, mischievous, clever, and warm-hearted.

But he was brilliant in so many other films, too, like Blazing Saddles (featuring another UI alum, Alex Karras):

Not to mention Young Frankenstein, The Producers, Silver Streak, Stir Crazy, and many, many more. He also provided a timeless quote that manages to perfectly sum up our ethos at BHGP and now at Go Iowa Awesome:

A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I can't think of a better way to sum up our guiding principle when it comes to this blog.

Rest in peace, Mr. Wilder.  You will be sorely missed.
