Last week Iowa pitched a shutout against the not-so-mighty Terrapins of Maryland. This week Iowa could... pitch another shutout against Indiana. Thanks again for this schedule, Delanybot 9000! Indiana has zero ranked wrestlers on their squad. They do have a handful of wrestlers who are on the fringes of the rankings, though, and overall their squad seems a bit more solid than Maryland's, so I don't expect the final score to be as lopsided as last weeks' 48-0 beatemdown. The Hoosiers are 5-10 overall and 1-6 in the Big Ten, with their wins coming against SIU Edwardsville, Northern Illinois, North Carolina, Stanford, and Maryland (of course).

In the absence of compelling match-ups in this dual, might I suggest you read some good wrestling writing? Cody Goodwin wrote a really excellent piece about Alex Marinelli and the aftermath of the death of Eli Stickley last summer. Stickley was a Wisconsin wrestler who was a very good friend of Marinelli's, as well as being the brother of Marinelli's longtime girlfriend. Fair warning: it might get a little dusty while you read that piece. And Chad Leistikow wrote a very good feature about the friendship of Spencer Lee and Austin DeSanto this week, too, with some nice insight into their relationship. Give 'em both a read.

A few thoughts:

  • This is the final home dual meet of the season, so if you're in the Iowa City area, it's your last chance to see the team this year (unless you're traveling to a road dual meet or the Big Ten or NCAA Tournaments, of course).

  • It's also Senior Night, so I expect to see Mitch Bowman and Sam Stoll start at 174 and 285, respectively. I think Stoll will end his CHA tenure with one more pin.

  • 174 is probably one of Indiana's best chances to get a win in this dual; it's the only match Wrestlestat projects them to win in their dual comparison. I think Bowman uses a little Senior Night mojo to grind out a win, though.

  • Martin has avoided bonus points in several of his losses at 165 this year -- but he's also been pinned three times, so if Marinelli does score bonus points here, I think it will be via fall. And I think he'll get Martin's shoulders on the mat.

  • Spencer Lee has been in a pinning mood of late (pins in three of his last four matches), so it's very possible he sticks Oliver at 125, but I think we might see him just missing out on a fall and settling for a tilt-tastic technical fall instead.

I won't be able to provide live results and feedback for this dual, so if someone in the comments wants to do so, that would be much appreciated. Thanks!

The usual rules apply.
