March Madness? That's cool and all, but we're here for some MARCH MATNESS. It's time for the NCAA Wrestling Tournament, so let's get ready to rumble. Much like the Big Ten Tournament, the team race isn't really in doubt -- barring some huge upsets, Penn State is a heavy favorite to win their fourth straight title and eighth in the last nine years. But the spots in the team race behind them are very much up for grabs and there are 10 individual championships on the line as well. This morning we've got the first round, with sixteen matches at each weight, plus ten pigtail bouts (one per weight). Go ahead and check out my previews for 125-157 and 165-285.
The full brackets are available here.
125: #3 Spencer Lee vs #30 Bryce West (Northern Illinois)
133: #7 Austin DeSanto vs #26 Codi Russell (Appalachian State)
141: #22 Max Murin vs #11 Tristan Moran (Wisconsin)
149: #10 Pat Lugo vs #23 Josh Maruca (Arizona State)
157: #6 Kaleb Young vs #27 Dan Reed (Columbia)
165: #1 Alex Marinelli vs #32 Tyler Morland (Northwestern) or #33 Joe Smith (Okie State)
184: #12 Cash Wilcke vs #21 Nick Gravina (Rutgers)
197: #5 Jacob Warner vs #28 Drew Phipps (Bucknell)
285: #28 Sam Stoll vs #5 Mason Parris (Michigan)
I'll be posting results and discussion in the comments, but feel free to join in, too.
