We knew most of the 2022-23 Iowa wrestling schedule last week, but the details for the entire schedule are set now -- at least in terms of who's on the schedule and the days of competition for those dual meets and tournaments. Most of the start times and TV information for these events is still TBD and probably will be until closer to the start of the season (though that is only about six weeks away now). A few thoughts:

  • Arm Bar at the Armory! What a great name for a wrestling event.

  • The NWCA All-Star Classic is exactly what it sounds like: an all-star dual meet pitting some of the best wrestlers at each weight against one another. Iowa is set to be represented by three wrestlers: Real Woods (141), Jacob Warner (197), and Tony Cassioppi (285).

  • Iowa is indeed ditching Midlands this season in favor of Soldier Salute, a new open tournament being hosted at the new Xtream Arena in Coralville. A full list of teams attending the tournament is TBD, but at the moment we know that Army, Citadel, VMI (Virginia Military Institute), Columbia, and Wyoming are currently slated to be in attendance. Several women's programs will also be competing at the event, including Simpson College, Iowa Wesleyan University, Central Methodist University, Life University, Indiana Institute of Tech, and William Penn University. Members of the Iowa women's wrestling team will also be in action at the event, albeit in an unattached capacity (meaning they won't be officially representing the University of Iowa or wearing Iowa singlets) since the Iowa women's program doesn't officially start competition until fall 2023.

  • As expected, Oklahoma State rounds out Iowa's non-conference schedule -- and the dual meet schedule as a whole, since the dual is Iowa's last of the season on 2/19.

  • We knew all of the Big Ten information -- eight duals, all on Friday/Sunday in January/February, with most of them (six) being on Fridays. Iowa is set to face all of the top-ranked Big Ten teams except Ohio State in dual meet competition.

  • Iowa's Big Ten duals are heavy on Friday nights (including all four home duals), but there are several non-conference weekend home duals (Cal Baptist, Penn, Iowa State, and Oklahoma State).

Don't forget that you can always get the most current information on Iowa's schedule (and results) by accessing the schedule page here at GIA -- either by clicking here or by hovering over "WRESTLING" at the top of the screen and selecting the option labeled "Wrestling Schedule."
