This is painful.

By your logic, underpaid workers should either quit their jobs or refuse their paychecks. For 99.9999% of the world, things aren't great all of the time. Working through the reality of one's situation isn't akin to endorsing the conditions in which one lives. We can both love what we do and work to make it better.

Exactly. They don't just get their education paid for, they get really good smoothies and shit too!

Shame on anyone who downvoted Olivecourt's post. I am heartened to see the overwhelming support for it.

Absent NCAA championships, Iowa is the national champ. The undefeated champion of both the dual and conference tournament seasons in the overwhelmingly dominant B1G deserves unanimous recognition as a title winner.

Just lil' old Iowa with the best women's basketball player, best men's basketball player, and best wrestler in the country competing in the same arena mere minutes apart. Iowa is big time right about now.

I agree with you 100%. The combine is, at best, a money grab for the NFL network and fodder to keep the league in the news this time of year. At worst, it comes across as a sick reminder that, to the league, these players are just commodities. They will be poked, prodded, and tested for quality before the bidding begins. They will be asked wildly inappropriate questions during interviews. In the end, very few players actually make or break their careers at the combine. There are exceptions, of course, but the quality of play in the NFL would not be harmed at all if the combine disappeared.

This is great first-hand insight. I love the tuition forgiveness model.

I would like to add that the University of Iowa Medical School, Dental School (and, ultimately, the University of Iowa Hospital system) are very highly regarded world-wide. I am a native Iowan. I am a graduate of the University of Iowa. I love the state and the university. That said, does anyone really think that the prestige of the U of I's professional programs can be sustained on the backs native Iowans?

Please don't twist what I just wrote into some sort of an insult. If anything, it is a question of numbers. Iowa City is an easy drive from a city of almost 10 million people. It just so happens that city is not in Iowa. Iowa's total population is just over 3 million. The state professional schools can and do feed out-of-state students to in-state populations. That is a good thing. Iowa needs them.

Reverse Jinx or not: Iowa will be down 30 points and lose by at least 15. I truly believe this. Izzo always gets what baby wants in E. Lansing. The refs will have no problem smacking Garza with ticky-tack fouls early in the game. MSU will be uncharacteristically great from three (see Purdue and Indiana). Luckily, it only counts as one loss. Move on and win at home.

Agreed. Zahid's suspension is probably bad news for Iowa, as Brooks is a national title contender. Abe might be one next year, but I don't see it this year. On the other hand - depending on seeding, this may keep Assad in the winners bracket one round longer.
