Who is this jerk who thinks he's so clever? Eh. It's just that guy with the jokes. They're not great jokes, but he tries.

Thanks Ross (and dirtyoldman). That was my initial thought as well. Seemed like U of I was overstepping here. But I'm not really sure whether I want to fight it because, as you mention, Hayden's estate or the photographer may have a better case if UI wants to bring it to their attention. It's also not out of the realm of possibility that I'd be applying for a job at UI at some point due to the nature of my work (not my Redbubble work but my work work)--so it might be best not to poke the bear here.

Kind of a bummer because this was initially just a fun way to celebrate the man (the myth, the legend), but what can ya do.

Oh buddy. I wish I could get you one of these shirts. I literally can't until I get this sorted out.

Are you local? Maybe I can get a bunch printed on my own dime and just give them away at a GIA event or something.

HH, the "punt option" is real. We ran it last year against Nebraska. It was 4th down. We lined up and had soft, man coverage on Hockenson. We converted, then kicked the game winning field goal. If the coverage had been different, Stanley would have pooched it.

I gotta respectfully disagree with you here, Chitown. That's not the point I was making at all.

Lots of people are complaining that Iowa turtled in the second half--that they tried to let the air out of the ball. That is a completely different point from not making halftime adjustments. The former point is incorrect based on watching the replay. The later point is a completely different discussion (and you won't find much argument from me there).

Thanks for this breakdown JDB. You put a finer point on what I was trying to say. Honestly, I was surprised watching the replay. I was expecting to see Iowa trying to take the air out of the ball by running into a stacked box or hammering zone-left to the short side or something. But that absolutely wasn't the case. A couple of dropped passes, some missed blitz pickup, and our drives fizzled. That end-around reverse was actually a brilliant call but there was a missed block on the outside so it went for no gain.

I'm not here to absolve BF completely of his playcalling. In hindsight we could have used some more Goodson runs, but BF didn't lack aggressiveness and certainly wasn't turtling.

Guys. I'm reading these comments while watching BTN in 60. I know we didn't score much in the 2nd half, but to call it turtling is revisionist history. Seriously, I recommend everyone watch a replay. Hawks were running reverses, chucking deep passes, etc. I hate to say it, but there were some key drops (execution) from the Hawks that derailed drives. The playcalling was plenty aggressive.

If Phil Parker is not on the table as HC, then I would love to see Stoopsie come back to his alma mater for a couple of reasons:

  1. I think he could recruit some impressive talent with his pedigree
  2. I think the Nebraska fan base's collective head would explode if the former Oklahoma coach came to Iowa

My completely unfounded hypothesis:

Phil Parker sticks around because he's actually the one who is next in line for head coach. We're all hemming and hawing about Brian being groomed for HC, but really, he's auditioning to be Phil's OC once there's a staff changeover.

The reason I like this 100% made up idea is because it would keep Doyle in place, wouldn't mess with Iowa's defensive identity, but also allow us an opportunity to change in other areas (cough * offense * cough)

I will defend this column until the sun explodes and then collapses into itself. Even then, when we're all crushed into a black hole the size of a mosquito's eye, I'll still be reading the Hybrid. And also Pickin' on the Big Ten. Those two things. Forever. Keep up the good work Bobby.

I know it's crazy, but I can't shake this feeling that Rutgers is going to beat BC. Feel free to mock me publicly when the Knights get obliterated.

Barney's Beanery on the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica, CA was open at 9AM on Saturday -- best Iowa bar in the LA area.

For big games there would be a line around the corner of Hawkeyes waiting to get in. They would open their doors at 8:59AM and instantly have a full bar of Hawkeye fans looking to get drunk. When I say that bar was full, you should know that bar was huge and there were Hawkeyes everywhere. They used to give 50% off of food and drink for Hawkeye fans during the game. Eventually it dropped down to 35%. I think we drank too much. It was *the* *best*.

I guess I'll have to console myself by actually going to games at Kinnick now...

I lived on the West Coast for years before moving back home this Spring. I would drag my butt out of bed bright and early on Saturdays to head to the Iowa bar, and have a beer in my hand by 9:00am. And for some reason I was always tired in the Fall...
