I know locals like Zen Box but I am not a fan. OK but nothing special.
For passes behind the line you need the other wide players to block effectively and you need speed from the receiver and the ability to make the first tackler miss. I question whether we have that. Also, Minn has not really played a hard schedule yet. Not saying they can't but I haven't seen it. Shouldn't we be running a lot of slants at least five or six yards downfield?
Jackson is pretty unlikely to get a good NFL draft this year. Maybe a red shirt would be wise. It won't hurt his future and if he has a great year next year he can go NFL.
I attended the national championship game. Some of the Clemson fans told me that they have few underclassmen enter the NFL draft so they are able to start more seniors than Alabama can. Their play certainly came off as experienced and disciplined. Why shouldn't retaining underclassmen be part of what we pay our head coach for? If we are truly a great place for a kid to develop as a football player shouldn't we be able to be one of the top retention teams in the NCAA?
I am pretty sure Hock would have had an even better season next year. I just bought his game jersey and wore it for the Miss State game and it worked. So was planning to wear it every game next season. I still may. Some good teams need and use a top-notch tight end. Some cannot catch, some cannot block, our guy does both outstandingly. Cowboys or Pats should grab him.
I would like to see more of the profits from college and pro football go to those who are injured. To me, that would be the best and most responsible use of the profits.
Saw Bama Clemson for less than face value too. Too good a deal to pass up. NCAA put together a really good show - way beyond my meager expectations. Would love for a Hawk team to get the experience. Clemson fans were in great form even before the game and they turned out in droves. The Clemson band also beat the crap out of Bama.
LOL But Bama doesn't have what Clemson has in this regard. We think of our school as a place to grow if you have the desire but Clemson has outdone us in that regard it appears. Why can't we be as good at it as they are?
Enjoyed attending the game last nite. Fans of both teams cordial to each other from what I saw. Clemson fans came to the game in great spirits. They must have known what they have in this team. Clemson was coached perfectly with only one penalty all game. I have heard they kept their players in school and out of the NFL unlike Bama and that they have had the same coordinators for four years while Bama has had 15 coaches leave in the same period. OC's at Bama changed every year of the four. We at Iowa need to find out what Clemson does that makes their seniors want to stay and play.
I hate to see players go too early and hurt themselves long term. I think Josh Jackson is one who went too soon.
As a Hawkeye from Chariton I really hope that it turns out to be good for Hock to stay in college. But if you went to Iowa to play pro football and find the academics difficult I understand. I think Hock has the smarts to be a successful graduate. Notice I resisted the urge to talk about the fun of boffing cheerleaders.
I withheld comment for two years. But this game was just the worst. The players deserve better play calling than they got. They are good enough to have won half of our losses. Why would you not open up the offense for this game? There is nothing to lose now- might as well start Mansell or Petras.
I should have added that the play calling is a big disservice to the players. They deserve better in return for their efforts.
We get behind at the end and we are still throwing to receivers behind the line of scrimmage?? WTF?? Did we have anything to lose by opening up the offense vs. NW?? I have watched others carp for two seasons now. Enough!! Almost any other head coach would at least be fun to watch. Clean house.
I don't suppose this will be available enough to help the coming season but it will be interesting to see if it can be used to help in recruiting WR's and in improvement on the field. Go Hawk alums!
How many schools can put two players in all-american ranks in the same year? Excited for the guys but how sad that we were so close to having a great season.
My grandson goes to school in Petras' conference. Marin Catholic is by far the class football outfit in the Conference and a powerhouse in Northern California. Note that Cal offered him and his coach and his school turned out Goff. I have never seen a QB get the ball out so quickly on a consistant basis. And with little apparent effort! So happy to see him be a Hawkeye and see Iowa begin to pick up someone from his school. Did anyone see a receiver on his team they like?
Brilliant way to open the discussion. I like your sense of humor and it perfectly captures our season.
My hope for this game is that a punter walks-on between now and then.
I flew Spirit once (RT). To make a long story short they called the feds on the passengers. Never again!
My sentiments exactly. I feel really sorry for the players who did not get to show their full potential. This is one last chance.
Wisky wins out and gets in. I seriously doubt that the Big 10 East is better than the West. So much BS gets thrown around in pundit land.
The award is well-deserved. It was a pleasure to watch your play. Please be drafted by an NFL team that runs a great operation as opposed to what CJB has to endure with the Niners.
I will take a fair catch any day over letting the ball bounce. We had too many bounces on punt returns this year. I also wondered what was wrong with letting Gersonde punt, especially when we had a lead.
I have my hotel for the Foster Farms Bowl. Chicken and tacos! Hawks get to play in the house that CJB is building. A rematch vs. Stanford could make me forget the folly of going to the last Rose Bowl. At least the band won that one.
I will probably be at the Foster Farms Bowl. It would be nice to see Iowa - if we win the bowl game. Otherwise, forget it. Could we possibly get up and play Stanford well? That I would enjoy since I saw our last outing against them. Ugh!
