Guess we gotta talk about it.

My thought, watching in real time, was "100% fired."
The replay, in some ways, did do Juwan Howard some favors. For the rest of us? No, no favors. Just dumb, dumb PUNCH vs. SLAP discourse which served absolutely no purpose. Like a punch was the death penalty and slap was nothing at all.
Then came the takes. Ohhhh, the takes. Michigan homers. MSU fans out the woodwork. The racist dog whistle industry business was booming.
A white assistant basketball coach hypothetically slapping Juwan Howard is similar to the murder by a white police officer of an unarmed black man. MY COLUMN. pic.twitter.com/0shSNJvoEQ
— Norm Charlatan (@normcharlatan) February 22, 2022
Honestly, it felt like everyone was wrong. Michigan people needed to back the fuck up, the outrage crew needed to probably chill a little, and, in the end, was the suspension not relatively appropriate?
Just saying, Fran got suspended 2 games just for criticizing a ref off the court, players literally throwing punches and get one game. Coach A just gets a fine, Coach B hits another coach and only gets 5 games.
— Jordan Bohannon (@JordanBo_3) February 22, 2022
Guess not. Ugh -- eat shit, J-Bo.
In the end, the only take that made me go "Yep" was from Brian Cook:
Seriously, if you're a Wisconsin fan and you don't have an active Twitter account that has "I Am Embarrassed That Brad Davison Is On This Team And I Think He Should Be Kicked Off Wisconsin's Basketball Team", I don't want to hear from you.
Because that man tries to injure people. He runs around the basketball court trying to injure people. He did it in this game, twice.
I want to be careful when I say this, but there's definitely a racial component here, right? Brad Davison has the crew cut, runs around, and the announcers don't mention it. They don't bring it up, the fact this is, you know, a piece of shit. He's a piece of shit. He's a shithead. He's an asshole. And he tries to hurt people. We don't talk about that. We don't talk about that. But we talk about a little scuffle at the end of the game that doesn't mean anything.
What Juwan Howard did was wrong, should be punished. Brad Davison has done worse than that five or six times in his career, but, because he's got plausible deniability, because it's set up so they can just kind of chuckle at it, he's not a big deal. But this is a big deal, and I can't really think that there's anything other than some issues there.
[...]
Greg Gard condones it. Greg Gard doesn't say anything about it. Greg Gard sticks up for his shithead player. And to me, that's worse. People talk about how Wisconsin basketball cheats the game, and they do. People get mad about it, and they should be mad about it.
[...]
Things got a little heated. Cooler heads prevailed. There will be a suspension. Whatever. Let's move on with our lives.
blugggggghhhh
I, for one would like to welcome Juwan Howard to the club. Ive nearly burned down my house after Wisconsin games. I cant imagine what would happen if I was near Greg Gard or anybody on the team. https://t.co/egpXW87DFG

Last Week
2/17 - Michigan 84, Iowa 79: Actually thought Iowa would win this game but still really regret not betting on Michigan with that +4.5 spread; that jumped out the second I saw it. Additional thoughts:
- Moussa and Keegan are my two favorite players in CBB, so it was so cool to see them on the same court
- Conversely, Connor/J-Bo/Caleb Houstan on the same court... less ideal
- Keegan seemed as aggressive as we've seen him all season (the shooting line is a touch skewed due to the missed dunks, but I think we'll really need that going forward)
- oh boy
Juwan Howard with one of the more bizarre brain farts you'll see randomly scooping a loose ball that was still in-play. Immediately realized what he did and covered his face. "My bad, my bad." He was assessed a Class B technical foul. pic.twitter.com/BY5UruBtJS
— Brendan Quinn (@BFQuinn) February 18, 2022
Little did he know that would be the high point of the week.
- The ending:
Jordan Bohannon not happy with the officiating. Said he was obviously fouled at the end. He called it blatant and said Iowa just isnt getting the calls.
— Pat Harty (@PatHarty) February 18, 2022
wank wank wank wank
2/19 - Iowa 75, No. 18 Ohio State 62: Ohhhhhhhhhhh, this one ruled. Definitely thought "Prolly the best win of the season by far, right?" before realizing we... had zero wins against ranked teams until this game.
Keegan Murray doesn't show much emotion on the court, but great camera work by Joseph Maiorana (USA TODAY).
— David Eickholt (@DavidEickholt) February 19, 2022
Huge win for Iowa today. pic.twitter.com/cJ6spj7DlV
oh also this was cool:
Brilliant play sequencing from Fran McCaffery and Iowa vs. OSU
— Eric Shapiro (@eric_shap) February 21, 2022
First play: Iowa runs screens on each block, then Keegan Murray flashes to the top of the key for a middle iso
Next play: the Iowa players reject the screens, Murray fakes the middle iso and cuts backdoor for a lob pic.twitter.com/7N2Cy8Q2qN
PV weighed in:
Murray's been a bolt from the heavens, but -- I know how many of you want to deny this -- it's been an outstanding coaching job from Fran. No typical February meltdown, steady improvement from the young guys, gradual evolution of his rotation, no drama. https://t.co/jRKRhDc8v8
— WWF Hall of Famer Ivan Bologna (@PV_GIA) February 21, 2022
Even got a positive Connor stat out of it:
A thing to the Connor McCaffery wouldnt play anywhere else crowd what about his 118.2 ORtg (KenPom)? Itd be top 15 in Big Ten if he played 5% more minutes. Few guys have adjusted their role to let other players flourish like Connor to say nothing of the injuries hes endured.
— Harrison (@HD_starr) February 21, 2022
2/22 - No. 25 Iowa 86, Michigan State 60: This one had the Luka back/Carver party element the tOSU road win did not...
Keegan posts up, gets the and-1, flexes, gives Luka the nod. pic.twitter.com/4ZlbfwKxTW
— Nap Lajoie (@randomanne) February 23, 2022
...and though the margin of victory was even bigger, still favor the previous win a little bit more. This Sparty team is broken; they look completely different than the team who beat Michigan, 83-67. Can't imagine it's as simple as a home vs. road thing, but, in the end, I do not care.
Did I bet *against* Joey Hauser falling down in the first three minutes of the game? Yes, absolutely did. pic.twitter.com/fXSRimSmPH
— Bobby L. (@bobbystompy) February 23, 2022
Haha.
I lost three bets on this game. That one, the over, and MSU +6.5. Would do 'em all again for that outcome, though.

CROWN US, TOMMY.
Tom Izzo on Keegan Murray: He was unbelievable, one of the best players Ive seen in this league in some time.
— Kennington Lloyd Smith III (@SkinnyKenny_) February 23, 2022
He also said that he believes the Big Ten Player of the Year and Coach of the Year could reside in Iowa.
THANK YOU TOMMY.

GOOD GAME TOMMY.
This Week
2/25 - No. 25 Iowa at Nebraska: ok cool hook 'em
2/28 - Iowa vs. Northwestern: Guess who just transferred?!

Caitlin Corner
Coming to Iowa City this weekend to watch my first ever Caitlin Clark home game. Still trying to rope the wife in, but she upgraded her status from Doubtful to Probable earlier this morning. Ahhhhh, so damn hyped. Taking back-to-back games against Indiana was exhilarating.
also this was funny
All this has made me want is for CP3 to guard Caitlin Clark. pic.twitter.com/LKtq7SdjNs

Brad Davison Is Definitively A Senior.
Brad Davison kicked Jones's legs out and was rewarded with a possession arrow and just elbowed Dickinson in the gut. You would think Big Ten refs would be sick of that guy making them look like assholes.
— Seth M. Fisher (@Misopogon) February 20, 2022
8. After the sides had been separated, I think Brad Davison was trying to get the fight reengaged. He was attempting to lead his teammates over to where Michigan was exiting the court, under the guise of going to sing "Varsity." He was held back at first, then ignored.
— Seth M. Fisher (@Misopogon) February 21, 2022
Thanks, as always, for your nothing contributions to this sport.
Glad my kids will get to say they were alive for the 24 hours when people were sympathetic to Wisconsin basketball. https://t.co/RRQUlVAV1p

Glad no one learned anything.
Fights can get ugly and that was a terrible Michigan basketball game. But major props to this Wisconsin @BadgerMBB assistant coach for bringing Suck It back pic.twitter.com/uyAowYuxri

...especially that guy. Am I a pearl clutcher to be somewhat blown away he wasn't suspended?
Get you someone that wants you as much as Brad Davison wants to sing Varsity pic.twitter.com/u6KXtTiqKU
