Quarterback Geno Smith, who has just signed for his second stint with the Jets, has been accused of assault and neglect of a special-needs child, a day after Father’s Day.
Smith, alongside a seventh-round pick in the 2026 NFL draft, was traded to the New York Jets in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2026 draft. The accusations came from an Instagram account posting a video with large white text calling him out for his behavior.
The nearly 85-second-long video circulating on Instagram and X shows what appears to be a heated domestic dispute at a residence, ending with police arriving on the scene. The footage, posted by Instagram user @everythingkrisxo, includes on-screen text accusing Smith of physically assaulting her and neglecting their special needs child.
The video shows a white text overlay repeatedly stating: “Today is the DAY! GENO SMITH beat my a$$ cause he HATES taking care of his special needs kid and can’t be left alone with him because he’d rather watch s*x online and play Call of Duty.” More text in the video claims the man threw her purses out of a vehicle and stole money from her car “with his high deranged a**.” The final visible frame before the video concludes carries the text: “Been supportive of this DEMON and his narcissistic personality disorder ALL MY DAMN LIFE!!!!!!!”
The visuals show a shirtless, muscular Black man wearing dark shorts, holding a white towel. The video appears to show Geno Smith walking away from the camera toward the garage area of a residential property with palm trees, an SUV, and numerous cars with silver covers over them. In the last parts of the video, Smith can be seen speaking to three uniformed officers who have arrived on site. So far, no news of any arrests or disciplinary action from the Jets or the NFL has been made.
Past Disciplinary Issues
Smith has been in the headlines before, with a minor infraction on October 3rd, 2014, when he was fined $12,000 for shouting profanity at fans while walking back to the locker room during halftime. Despite this, he was allowed to start the next game against the San Diego Chargers.
An infamous incident that Smith is famous for is being involved in an altercation with defensive end IK Enemkpali in the Jets locker room. On August 11, 2025, Smith suffered a fractured jaw after Enemkpali punched him in the face over an alleged $600 unpaid debt. Smith was subsequently ruled out for 6-10 weeks, and Enemkpali was released by the Jets afterwards.
What’s Next?
Fans will be looking to see if additional information will surface in the coming days or weeks. Allegations shared on social media do generate significant attention, but NFL team management and league officials usually wait for conclusive evidence and facts before they make any decisions.
Meanwhile, the Las Vegas Raiders would be happy to see the back of Smith, who now poses a major problem for the Jets, if the accusations ring true.
After being traded back to the Jets, Smith said, “Complete full circle moment back to where it all began,” while answering questions from the NFL Network through text messages. “I’m excited to connect with my new teammates and coaches and everyone in the building as well as build a new relationship with the fan base and community,” he continued.
It remains to be seen if Smith will be able to build a good rapport with his team and fan base, and community, with the allegations’ validity still under review. Until more details emerge, it looks like the fans and the officials will have to wait to come to their own conclusions. The allegations have already become a trending topic in the NFL community, but no facts other than speculations exist at this point.
Geno Smith himself hasn’t come out to offer any clarifications or statements yet. It sure looks like a few nervy days for the Jets fans and management. Apart from the Instagram handle, where the woman describes herself as the mother of Smith’s special needs child and mentions a long-term relationship in which she has been supportive in spite of ongoing issues. Smith’s personal and family life has mostly always been private, with limited public details about his romantic relationships or children.
