The commitment avalanche for Iowa's 2020 recruiting class continued Monday as Iowa picked up a second verbal commitment on the day and their sixth total verbal commitment since Saturday. #ALLTHECROOTS
Aaron Witt, listed at 6'5", 230 lbs, is a defensive end prospect out of Winona, MN. Both Rivals and 247Sports rate him as a 3* prospect. Witt was committed to his home-state Minnesota Gophers earlier in the commitment process, but backed off that commitment and opened up his recruitment in May. He's been strongly linked to Iowa since then, but he made it official after being part of Iowa's recruiting extravaganza over the weekend. In addition to Iowa and Minnesota, Witt also had offers from Iowa State, Oregon State, Wyoming, Toledo, Ohio, UNI, North Dakota State, and South Dakota State.
Witt is the 7th defensive line recruit Iowa's added to this class (defensive line is definitely a priority for Iowa this year) and the 20th overall recruit in Iowa's Class of 2020. That is a lot of croots. Check out some highlights below:
Witt shows off a pretty good first step and closing speed and he sheds blockers well at the high school level. He also flows to the ball well -- and he lays some ferocious hits when he gets the chance. There are some nice clips of him stoning running backs in the backfield, too, which suggests that he can can be a solid presence in both run support and pass rush. His high school team appeared to line him up in a few different positions, too, which suggests a bit of versatility.
Welcome to Iowa City, Aaron -- we won't make you row any boats here.
