After a very (very) (very) (very) (very) long dead period in recruiting, the NCAA re-opened the floodgates for recruiting this week, allowing teams to conduct in-person recruitment activities for the first time in over a year. And Iowa wasted no time in adding another member to their 2022 football recruiting class in the process:
Dotzler, listed at 6'7", 265 lbs, is rated a 3* prospect by both Rivals and 247. Dotzler's offer sheet outstrips his star ranking, though -- he chose Iowa over offers from Penn State, Purdue, Indiana, Iowa State, Arizona State and Michigan State. He also had offers from Dartmouth and Harvard, so the academic side of things certainly shouldn't be a concern for Dotzler.
What led Dotzler to Iowa? Some serious Iowa ties played a big role, as he told Hawkeye Report's Blair Sanderson:
"It was definitely a dream come true for me because almost my entire family attended the University of Iowa and I grew up a diehard Hawkeye fan," Dotzler told HawkeyeReport.com when Iowa offered.
"There is a pretty deep connection to Iowa," said Jeff Dotzler, Jack's father. "I grew up in Harlan and my wife went to high school at Regis in Cedar Rapids. We met at and are both alums of UI. Jack's older sister is a freshman and many other family members are current students or alumni. Jack has been wearing the Tigerhawk to school in Badger country since Kindergarten."
That's a lot of ties to the University of Iowa for a guy in Waunakee, Wisconsin. Also working in Iowa's favor? Dotzler will play offensive line in college and projects as a likely offensive tackle. Iowa has a pretty good track record when it comes to developing offensive linemen. At 265 lbs, Dotzler will need some time in the weight room before he's ready to enter the Big Ten trenches, but we can be patient. Take a peek at some of Dotzler's highlights here:
Welcome to Iowa City, Jack.
